At that time, Potchefstroom University already has a branch in Vanderbijlpark. Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and the University of North-West (formerly the University of Bophuthatswana) is the institution that comes under one umbrella to form the NORTh-West University we know today. After its merger, the university made to the list of one of the large universities in South Africa with 64,081 full-time and distance learning students. The head office of the university is located in Potchefstroom.
